Brit Dario Franchitti wins Indy 500

Brit Dario Franchitti wins Indy 500
Scottish Indycar driver Dario Franchitti has won the famous Indy 500 race – for the third time in his career.
Franchitti triumphed after charging from the back of the grid after a pit lane incident saw him hit and spun round at slow speed.
The Scot had to fend off a last-lap challenge by former Formula 1 driver Takuma Sato, too. The Japanese star made an ambitious move to take the lead but crashed out, leaving Franchitti clear to take the flag.
The win is a famous victory for Franchitti, who is married to Hollywood star Ashley Judd. It’s the first win in 2012 for his team Ganassi Racing and engine supplier Honda.
There was another Brit in the top 10 too, after former Formula 1 driver Justin Wilson scored seventh place. Another former F1 driver, Rubens Barichello, finished in 11th place but did actually lead a lap of the world-famous Indy 500 race.
The 2012 Indy 500 also broke a record – for the most lead changes in its history. First place eventually changed hands 35 times during the 200 laps of the 500-mile race.
