160hp Abarth 595 models join revised range
Abarth has announced changes to its Fiat 500-based hot hatch range – including the introduction of two new 595 models with 160hp, badged Turismo and Competizione (pictured).
Starting with the entry-level Abarth 500, however, this sticks with the same 1.4-litre turbo engine as before, but gains extra items of kit and a reduced asking price. Power output is 135hp for the manual, or 140hp for the ‘MTA’ semi-automatic.
Standard equipment now includes a “Corsa” pack – with Inox pedals, footrest and door kick-plates – rear parking sensors and a choice of four pastel colours. Other highlights are air conditioning, 16-inch alloys and the Sport mode.
As before a dealer-fit “esseesse” pack is available to increase the performance to 160hp; this also adds 17-inch alloys, better brake discs and tyre pressure monitors.
Pricing for the regular car now starts at £13,975 for the 500 hatchback and £15,875 for the 500C convertible, with the MTA gearbox an additional £1,300. Compared to previous prices that’s over £1,100 less for the hatch and £1,600 less for the convertible.
All new for 2012, however, are the Abarth 595 Turismo and 595 Competizione versions.
These feature the 160hp upgrade as standard, as well as bespoke dampers and visual tinsel including Titanium Grey grilles, machined aluminium fuel and oil filler caps, Xenon headlights, 17-inch alloys and red brake calipers.
The 595 Turismo also gets leather upholstery, climate control and an Alutex finish for the pedals, footrest and kick-plates. There’s a choice of 10 exterior colours, and prices start at £17,725 for the hatchback and £19,625 for the convertible.
The 595 Competizione meanwhile features racier Sabelt seats, a “Monza” sports exhaust and cross-drilled brake discs for higher performance. The pedals, footrest and kick-plates are aluminium, and prices start at £18,725 for the hatch and £20,625 for the convertible.
Both new variants can be had with the MTA semi-auto at extra cost.
The entire updated 2012 Abarth 500 range is available to order at dealers now.
