Perry: Billy is not a true Mitchell
Aug 13 2012
EastEnders star Perry Fenwick has said Billy Mitchell is ready to leave his troubled past behind now he is a great grandad.
The soap star has played the hapless Billy for 14 years, and his character has been involved in drug dealing, stealing charity money and been a getaway driver in a robbery in his time, while desperately trying to live up to the Mitchell family reputation.
But now he has granddaughter Lola and great granddaughter Lexi to look after he is trying his best to stay on the right side of the law.
Perry said that Billy no longer wants to emulate his hardmen cousins Phil and Grant Mitchell: "For years he wanted to be [like them], but he's always been the black sheep of the family, or the runt of the litter... I don't think he's as bothered about that any more.
"When Billy was with Honey and his kids he'd do anything for him, and that was why she left him, because he started thieving and lying, but as a means to an end.
"That's when his back's against the wall - if anyone threatens him or his family, that's when his Mitchell instincts come out.
"He's just trying to toe the line all the time now but there'll always be temptation because he's always skint!"
And Perry revealed Billy is set to clash with the Mitchell clan before the year is out.
