Ray Davies a closing ceremony hit
Aug 13 2012
Ray Davies sang one of the early songs of the closing ceremony and The Kinks front man was given an almost universally warm reception for his rendition of Waterloo Sunset.
@thecuckooclub tweeted "Amazing performance by Ray Davies @ the Olympic closing Ceremony!" and @thattanyafranks agreed: "Have to admit did have a little cry at Ray Davies' and Waterloo Sunset #closingceremomy" while @teamshanerichie added: "So great 1 of our greatest ever poets Ray Davies singing 1 of London's fave songs WATERLOO SUNSET So fitting!"
There were some concerned with the singer's rather tired appearance, however, and was somewhat cruelly described by @samuelgcaine thusly: "Well, I guess with Ray Davies, Sir Paul (inevitably), John Lennon and Mercury tonight's theme is famous British corpses." @dobsonjp "joked" along the same lines: "How many more dead singers we having? Already had Lennon, Mercury and the zombie Ray Davies".
